Meaning:
Lit. “a banana tree” is a young person, usually a teenager or a 20-something, using their parents’ money to impress his peers. Such a guy buys expensive stuff for the others to see it but the money is not earned by himself. It his handed by ma and pa who possibly substitute a real care or time with it.
The origin lies in the 60s and 70s when communist Poland’s propaganda coined the term “bananowa młodzież” (“banana youth”) to target children of rich entrepreneurs, the natural enemies of the official ideology, or children of the political elite (to blackmail their parents). Bananas, as any tropical trees, were a rare commodity and hence only available to well connected people and even used as a symbol of status.
The term somehow survived the system change in the early 90s and was repurposed to address children of people who flourished in the wild capitalism. Often shortened to just “banan”, it has been, for instance, used by Polish rap groups to stress the difference between the “reeel” and fake members of the subculture.

Banana charakteryzuje właśnie ta potrzeba walidacji, szukanie atencji o którą najłatwiej pokazując przepłacone rzeczy w miejscu publicznym/internecie.
Pamiętasz wtedy latem mama ci dała dużo kabony. Wszystko przejebałeś bananowcu pierdolony!
