Meaning:
Lit. “a lacey work” is an expression of admiration directed at a skilled execution of a complex and difficult task. It is widely used in all possible situations and language registers.
For instance, if a person comes up with an innovative business idea and brings it to fruition. Or if a football player dribbles through the whole opposing defensive and then scores. Or if a group of burglars manage to break in to a museum, steal valuable works of art and leave no traces for the police to follow.
The standard Polish word for lacework is “koronkarstwo”. This one is neutral – simply a name for the profession or task to be executed.
