Meaning:
Lit. “a checkered weather” – the pattern consisting of squares is referenced here. And what the expression means is: unstable, with substantial differences between subsequent days, or even within a single day.
Polish people use this mostly to express their discontent with the weather. As opposed to to stable, sunny and warm. And it’s “checkered” because a lighter square – clear sky – meets a darker one – lots of clouds and rain.

Najbliższy tydzień przyniesie tak zwaną “pogodę w kratkę“. Słoneczne dni będą przeplatały się pochmurnymi i deszczowymi. Temperatura maksymalna nie przekroczy 20 stopni Celsjusza.
Trochę słońca i koloru na ten weekend Wam życzę. I zdrowia! Bo pogoda w kratkę i ja ostatnio też mocno zakatarzona chodziłam, ale na szczescie już lepiej się czuje :).
