Meaning:
Lit. “a sulphur”. While the basic word for this element is “siarka”, which sounds a bit diminutive, the “siara” sounds like “a big sulphur”.
Also, it has a couple of secondary meanings, but the most important one is “shame”. As in: something you really really are ashamed of, a disgrace. And it often gets used in the set phrase “ale siara!” – what a shame/disgrace!
By the way, an alternative meaning is “a cheap wine” as sulphur dioxide has been traditionally used as a preservative in by Polish fruit wine industry.
