Meaning:
Lit. “like I love God”. The expression is used as a kind of oath to confirm a previous statement, especially if the person speaking is excited or nervous. The indirect translation to English would be: “I swear to God”
The exact meaning or the full extend would be: “what I just said is truth, the same as the fact that I love God”. This was supposed to impress mostly very religious people in the past.
I’ve heard the exact opposite more than once: “jak Boga nie kocham” used as a kind of tongue-in-cheek oath and at the same time confirmation of them being 100% atheists. This would be funny for some of the young townsfolk in Warsaw but still offend many Christians.
Another alternative would be “jak babcię kocham” – “like I love my granma”.
