Meaning:
Lit. “a kidney”. The first meaning is obvious – the wonderful organ filtering your blood. The second meaning is the belt bag a.k.a. bum bag a.k.a. fanny pack you put some indispensable stuff like ID, money, credit cards into. It still sounds a bit slangy but most Poles below 40 will understand it.
The origin is probably the proximity of the position on which you wear the said item to your kidneys. This, by the way, has evolved as some urban dwellers tend to wear their fanny pack across their chest and back. Which has provoke another, even funnier name for the item: “kołczan prawilności” which one may translate into “quiver of trueness” and hits hard on fashion-aware townies.
